Tales of the Blue Tower

The tower has stood over the city for longer than memory records. Its exterior of smooth blue stone that gleams like porcelain in moon- and sunlight resembles no mineral within a hundred leagues. When viewed from its base, it seems to climb indefinitely upward, dissolving into the blue of the sky as if they were hewn from the same substance. Seen from afar, the tower looms over the countryside's fields and forests like a great blue needle driven into the earth. Birds circle its midsection, unwilling – or unable – to reach the ancient crown of its parapet.
